Wed 05th Sept 1230hrs RAF Coningsby: Bugatti Veyron Visit
Mission: To prove that the Bugatti Veyron is the fastest and most powerful car ever built. Method: By racing a Typhoon F1 type aircraft for two miles from a standstill, on Runway 08/26. Operators: Mr. R. ‘Hammy’ Hammond & Flt Lt Jim Walls (2007 Typhoon Display Pilot).
Equipment:
- 1x Bugatti Veyron 16.7, 8.0 L quad-turbocharged W16, power to weight ratio of 529 bhp/tonne (official rating 1001bhp), 0-60 in 2.46 secs, £757,359 – deigner: Hartmut Warkuss.
- 1x Typhoon F1 (ZJ920 – ‘Bravo X-Ray’), EJ200 turbofan 20000 lbf (90 kN) with reheat, Brakes off to 35,000ft <2.5mins, Brakes off to lift off <8 seconds (Full Internals and Missiles), 200Kts to Mach 1 in 30 secs, full-authority, quadruplex digital Fly-By-Wire system.
Result: ***CLASSIFIED*** You’ll just have to watch Top Gear when it starts again in October!
