Karting

Info
![]() |
What are we about? This is kart section, not go-kart section. What is the difference? I'm talking about SPEED, people. We've got it, they haven't. Our aim is to provide a good quality motor racing experience with reliable machinery at your command. |
However, as any Formula One team will testify, when you go for speed you need two things:
1. A driver who will step to the very edge of their driving limits and back again.
2. A regular preventative maintenance schedule to keep the equipment in top condition.
Back at the garage, the drivers work along side the "experts" learning how to maintain all aspects of the kart, from pressures to piston. Preventative maintenance means that possible problems are spotted and dealt with correctly.
To help with this we have a motto:
"Currus mundus currum felicitum est. Currus felicitus currum celer est."
A clean kart is a happy kart and a happy kart is a fast kart
The section leader holds a National A class kart racing licence and has racing experience in national level meetings.
Karts
![]() |
The Karts we use are the 2005 T-3 Trulli chassis and GX160 (163cc) Honda engines and can reach a speed of approx 30mph on the straight. As all components of the kart are necessary, routine checks of the karts are carried out. These involve tyre pressures, brake lines, security of fixings, and fuel level etc... This helps to ensure reliable maintenance of the karts throughout the racing sessions. |
Safety
![]() |
The Karting section follow a set of rules in a similar fashion to professional motor racing. These are in place for safety and to keep things fair. |
Safety
![]() |
Safety clothing is required to race a kart and this includes the following equipment: crash helmet, gloves, strong long sleeved top and trousers (such as overalls) & strong footwear (such as boots). |
Flags
![]() |
A flag system is in place for the karting circuit similar to that which is used at other racing circuits. These flags are used for safety and to enforce the rules. The colours we use are yellow, blue, green, red, black and checkered black & white.

Circuit
A kart circuit plan can be seen below. The direction of travel is anti-clockwise and the pits are shown at the bottom.
Programme
During the week the karting section drivers are split into teams, each assigned to a kart. It is their responsibility to check the kart for reliability problems and keep it clean as they use it. If there are any excursions from the racing line and damage occurs to the kart then they must carry it back to the pits to repair it, with the help of the section leaders.
Once everyone has got to grips with the controls of the kart there are opportunities for sprint races and time trials to make make the driving a bit more challanging.
Grandprix
By the end of the week, you and your team will be able to go fast enough and prepare your kart well enough to win the Grand Prix. But can you do it?
During the final day at camp, all kart teams battle it out in an endurance race for 1st place and then wait in antipication as the results are read out.
